Are wood burning stoves being banned in the UK?

No, wood burners are not going to be banned in the UK. However, since 2022, new regulations were introduced that require all new wood-burning stoves to comply with specific environmental standards aimed at reducing harmful emissions. These regulations are part of the UK government's broader strategy to combat air pollution and promote cleaner energy alternatives. 

The new standards ensure that wood-burning stoves produce lower levels of particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and other pollutants. As a result, homeowners looking to purchase a new stove must choose models that meet these stringent criteria.  And anyone who currently owns an older stove or open fire is encouraged to change over to a new eco designed stove that's better for the environment.
